The LORD now told Job's three friends that He was angry with them because they had misrepresented Him, which Job had not. They were judged by the words they had said, when they blamed Job for his own misfortunes and declared that God had been punishing him for his misdeeds.
The LORD now called Job "My servant", indicating that the relationship of Job with the Lord, if ever broken, was now fully established.
But this was not the case with Eliphaz and the other two: in order to forgive them, the LORD demanded that they offer a huge burnt offering of seven bulls and seven rams. This offering was to be taken to Job, in order to offer up for themselves a burnt offering, and His servant Job would pray for them.
The three friends had sinned against God and needed an intercessor and a sacrifice in order to be forgiven. Every sinner is in need of a sacrifice and of intercession to be accepted by God. But it costs him nothing now, for the grace of God was such that He Himself offered a sacrifice in the form of His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, who also becomes his intercessor. The holocausts and sacrifices made before the coming of the Son of God to the world were only symbols of His real, perfect and eternal sacrifice.
In this manner the LORD provided for Job to find himself in his right place, accepted by the LORD as His servant, and for his friends to be reconciled with Job and to find the LORD's forgiveness for their sins.
7 And so it was, after the LORD had spoken these words to Job, that the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, "My wrath is aroused against you and your two friends, for you have not spoken of Me what is right, as My servant Job has.
8 "Now therefore, take for yourselves seven bulls and seven rams, go to My servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and My servant Job shall pray for you. For I will accept him, lest I deal with you according to your folly; because you have not spoken of Me what is right, as My servant Job has."
9 So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went and did as the LORD commanded them; for the LORD had accepted Job.
